Will my health insurance cover a Mobility Lift?

At this time, we are not aware of any private health insurance plans that pay for mobility equipment outside of actual mobility devices themselves. While plans like Medicare and other private health insurance plans will often cover the cost of a powered mobility wheelchair or scooter, and even manual wheelchairs providing patients meet the necessary requirements, private health insurance doesn’t purchase ramps, grab bars, stair lifts, automotive wheelchair/scooter lifts or vertical platform lifts for use in or around the home.

There are exceptions to this: special waiver programs, special Medicaid programs, pediatric care programs for qualifying patients, Veteran programs through VA hospitals and special workman’s comp programs. Each of these programs and others similar to them carry special criteria for coverage and work with providers to provide equipment through specific processes unique to each of these programs. Coverage under these programs changes and depends on unique patient criteria. If you feel you may qualify for one of these programs, please discuss directly with your provider. They may have specific vendors and parameters they are required to work within for specialized services.

At this time, ASAP Lifts provides installation services through the VA FSS program to accommodate veterans working through the VA, and we are contracted by our vendor to provide evaluation and installation, repair and maintenance at set fee schedules.

We do not bill insurance directly for services as our equipment typically falls outside typical insurance coverage, but we are willing to assist customers with invoices, work orders and proof of payment if they wish to pursue direct reimbursement after paying for products or services rendered.
